The American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund has not received any payments from the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority for the sale of Hawaiki Cable bandwidth to French Polynesia.

And the Chairman of the Retirement Fund Board Vaanatiu Iafeta Tofala has written to the ASTCA CEO and Board to explain why that is.

It was revealed at a recent House hearing that ASTCA did receive a share of the sale of 10 gigabytes of Hawaiki bandwidth to the American Samoa.

Part of the transaction was to payoff ASTCA’s debt to the American Samoa Hawaii Cable.

ASTCA is also receiving payment for the sale of Hawaiki bandwidth to French Polynesia.

ASTCA CEO Fala Sualevai said as of two weeks ago the payment had not come through.

Vaanatiu told KHJ News that the Retirement Fund should receive 25% from any sale of Hawaiki bandwidth.

This is according to a law passed last year which assigns 25% of proceeds from the sale of Hawaiki Cable bandwidth to address the unfunded liability of the Retirement Fund.

Vaanatiu said up to now ASTCA has not made any payment under this law and this is the reason why he has written to the ASTCA Board and CEO to inquire about the transaction with French Polynesia.
