Labor Day is next Monday and it will be an ASG and federal holiday. StarKist Samoa is giving its more than 2000 employees the day off.
The banks will be closed as will be nearly all of the private sector. Some retail stores will be opened.
Since 2013, the first year of the Lolo Lemanu administration the ASG Workforce Day is held the Friday preceding Labor Day. However there’s no celebration this year.
There’s been no explanation given on why the event to celebrate and thank the ASG workforce has been cancelled. A senior government official told KHJ News, blame it on COVID-19.
