Man Facing Weapons Charges

An incident last Friday where an unregistered firearm was fired in Malaeloa led to the arrest of a man now facing weapons charges.
Kenken Sinapati is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Police went to the defendant’s home that afternoon after his father called the Leone substation saying that his son had fired one round into the air.  The defendant headed to a banana patch after he fired the shots  and police went looking for him as soon as they arrived at the scene.
Sinapati was found after 30 minutes and was taken to the Tafuna substation
According to statements by the father, the defendant ‘s girlfriend and his sister, there was an argument between Sinapati and his girlfriend during which he threw around things inside the house.
When his father got home and learned about what happened he scolded the defendant and ordered that he and his girlfriend pack up and leave.
The defendant got upset started swearing and damaging contents of their home.
He asked his sister for his gun.  The sister fetched the gun and gave it to her father who then handed it to the defendant.
He fired one shot in the air and threatened to shoot anyone who came after him then fled.
The weapon, a .38 special revolver handgun was not licensed.  Police confiscated it along with one round of Aguila 380 auto live ammunition.
Bail for Sinapati was set at $10,000.
