After an absence of more than a decade, planes will once again be flying to
the big island of Savaii.

Samoa Observer reports that the national carrier Samoa Airways will soon
start commercial flights from Faleolo International Airport.

Chief Executive Officer Seiuli Alvin Tuala said they are offering a convenient travel option to the big island.

“It is also a way to build support for local corporate businesses,” he said.

The service will also help support local tourism operators looking to
offer quick weekend getaways.

“The service is a good example of our Government’s commitment to improving travel for our own people.”

The first flight will be ‪next Friday August 28 at 4pm‬ to Maota and back to
Faleolo ‪at 4:50pm‬, after the next repatriation flight from New Zealand
has come and gone.

General Manager [Commercial] Leuluaialii Robert Rounds said as well as
growing the domestic market, flights to the big island will help grow
international tourism to Savai’i when borders reopen.

“It will allow us to market Savai’i a lot better on an international level,
as part of a network,” he said.
