Faipule Question Revenues from Hawaiki Bandwidth Sale

Last year the Fono approved legislation which assigns a portion of the revenues from the Hawiki submarine Cable American Samoa branch to reduce the unfunded liability of the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund.

At a House hearing last week, Representatives Larry Sanitoa and Vailoata Amituanai were keen to find out if ASTCA has paid any money to the Retirement Fund from sales of Hawaiki bandwidth.

CEO of ASTCA Fala Sualevai reported that the sale of Hawaiki bandwidth to French Polynesia was worth $6 million but as of now ASTCA was still awaiting the drawdown of funds from the sale.

The Director of the American Samoa Hawaii Cable Paul Young gave details of the sale.
