Samoa Police report that a criminal complaint has been filed by the victim of an assault which was filmed and posted on social media.
Samoa Observer reports the filmed attack went viral and attracted a lot of public outcry.
Deputy Commissioner Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti confirmed the matter is now the subject of a police investigation.
“We anticipate to file criminal charges against those involved,” she said.
The video, showing a group of men huddled over a young man whose feet and hands were tied with a green rope, went viral after it was posted on Facebook Sunday afternoon.
The assault appears to have taken place at a public place and shows five men standing around throwing punches at the young man on the ground.
The victim with bound hands and feet was crying for mercy as the attackers beat him up.
Deputy Commissioner Papalii said the reported claim by a woman to be the victim’s brother was not true.
The woman is reported to have told the newspaper she was the victim’s brother and that her family had been trying to find him since the video surfaced.
