The cost of the medical charter flight on Hawaiian Airlines last night was $250,000, according to Sandra King Young, Director of the American Samoa State Medicaid Office.

She said for a first charter by ASG everything went smoothly for the most part.

The only hiccup was a power outage at the Hawaiian Airlines check in counters but everyone was checked in by 6pm.

The Hawaiian Airlines A330 aircraft arrived at 9:07pm and departed at 12:21 this morning.

KHJ News had reported in our 7am bulletin that there were 277 passengers on the outbound flight however according to King Young it took 274 travelers, as a few who were approved for the flight opted not to leave.

The Medical Doctor for the flight was Surgeon Dr Akapusi Ledua who is moving to Anchorage, Alaska and RN Elaine Maulupe was the medical crew for the LBJ Referral patients.

Today in the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Health Committee Rep Vesi Fautanu Jr, commended all those responsible for making the charter flight possible.

He said because of the success of the flight now members of the public are asking if another flight is possible. He is therefore calling a hearing with the Medicaid Office Director next Tuesday morning.
