810 COVID-19 tests, all negative

The testing of first responders for coronavirus has seen a rapid surge in the number of COVID-19 tests conducted locally by the Department of Health.

As of Sunday the number of tests for the deadly virus stood at 810 of which 422 were first responders.

All of the 810 tests conducted have yielded negative results.

LBJ Hospital had the most number of staffers who were tested-84, Public Safety-81, Port Administration-74, Department of Health-44, Human and Social Services-35 and less than 10 each from EPA and the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Unit.

The tested group also includes 31 employees of Hope House, and stevedoring companies Reid Stevedoring-31 and Harbor Maritime-17.

The Department of Health Epidemiologist Dr Aifili John Tufa said that coronavirus cases in the United States were on the rise but the number of deaths was slowing down.

Director of the VA Clinic Dr. Fred Uhrle did not agree that the virus was beginning to weaken and offered a different theory on why deaths were slowing down.
