Man held in contempt of court found with ice

A man police arrested for criminal contempt is also facing drug charges
after a glass pipe containing methamphetamine was found on him during a body search.

Samoa News reports that Vaifou Talalelei made his initial appearance two weeks ago on unlawful possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest and criminal contempt of a court order.

Bail has been set at $5,000 after defense attorney Bob Stuart told the court that Talalelei wanted to exercise his rights to a preliminary hearing which has now been set for ‪Thursday this week‬.

The prosecution said police were called to Leone to assist with a drunken
Talalelei on Friday, May 30, 2020.

When they arrived, Talalelei ran off but was quickly apprehended by two members of the village aumaga who took him to police who then arrested him and performed a body search.

A hard object found in his pants pocket turned out to be a glass pipe containing methamphetamine.

A witness told police that Talalelei has made it a habit to turn up intoxicated and start shouting obscenities at people.

The defendant blamed the two men who captured him for placing the glass pipe inside his pocket in an effort to set him up.
