Post Office staff are working today to put stimulus checks in mailboxes and the checks will be ready for pick up when the Post Office opens bright and early tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow is the second release of stimulus checks and a statement from Treasury last week said there are 2,800 checks with a total value of $4.8 million.
Treasury will be delivering the checks to the Post Office today and Post Master Tao Suani said this morning that all stimulus checks will be in mail boxes at opening time, which is 6am, two hours earlier than the usual opening time.
Suani said that no clerks will be available for the usual postal business until 8:30 am.
Treasury has said that those receiving checks tomorrow are:
- All eligible 2018 tax filers who hadn’t filed their 2019 taxes and are in good standing…that is there’s nothing holding up processing of their tax returns.
- All eligible 2019 filers after May 14thwhole filings have been fully processed.
- 280 2019 tax filers who did not get their checks in the first release because of a recent update to eligibility guidelines which resulted in an error. (Eligibility requirements which were in an earlier version of the CARES Act were used by the Tax Office when they shouldnt have as they were not in the final version that was enacted into law)
For those without Post Office boxes, call the Disbursing Office at 633-4155 by Friday, June 5.
Treasury is also releasing Batch #11 of tax refund checks tomorrow.
