A female taxi driver charged with violation of the COVID-19 requirements under the emergency declaration entered a plea agreement and was sentenced last week.

Fofoga Godinet was fined $500 of which $450 was deferred.

Her attorney, Assistant Public Defender Bob Stuart told the court that though the government had not provided discovery, his client was ready to enter a guilty plea .

Godinet pled guilty to the charge of violating the COVID-19 emergency declaration.  She admitted that at around 6:17 pm on April 20th she was still driving her taxi when she was stopped by police for violating the 6 pm curfew

According to her attorney, Ms Godinet was driving her last customer home and noticed it was after 6pm but she didn’t want to abandon her passenger.

That’s when police pulled her cab over.  District Court Judge Elvis Patea sentenced her to 6 months probation on condition she pay $50.

She is the third person to be convicted for a violation of the COVID- 19 emergency declaration.
