April 30 is International Jazz Day and coronavirus has not stopped musicians around the world sharing their talents to commemorate the event, on the internet.
The 2020 Samoana Jazz and Arts Festival was to be held this month to coincide with Internatioanl Jazz Day however COVID-19 made it impossible to stage the event which brings musicians from off island to the territory to perform with our local talents.
But the show must go on. Today on the Samoana Jazz and Arts Festival FaceBook page you can listen to and watch a performance of a jazzy version of, “We are Samoa,” the song made famous by Faanana Jerome Grey and Ava.
Faanana is part of the virtual performance and local musicians who will be adding their voices and music are Ulale Pusi Ulale, Pauga Joey Cummings, Tui Letuli, Tuileisu Pouesi and Angeline Afo.
They will join musicians of Samoan ancestry from Australia, New Zealand and the United States for the virtual performance of, “We Are Samoa,” as arranged by Dr. Opeloge Ah Sam, and produced by Mack Tane along with Samoana Jazz and Arts Festival Director and Board member Siteine Peta Siulepa assisting.
