The fire which destroyed the Scanlan building in Fagatogo also caused major damage to a family’s home forcing a couple and their children to move out with uncertainty as to how they will rebuild.
The couple lived upstairs of the Mailo building which is to the west of the Scanlan building.
Firemen battling the raging flames that erupted from the Scanlan building sprayed water towards the Mailo Building pushing the flames to the couple’s home.
The fire spread across the ceiling into their kitchen and living room, melting furniture, beds– completely destroying both their sons’ bedrooms. -One son lost everything.
Two thirds of the home sustained fire and water damages.
The power and water to the couple’s home was disconnected so they’ve moved out.
The coupe did not have home insurance and it will be months before they can rebuild the home that they spent a year building bit by bit.
