
Hawaiian Airlines was set to resume flights on April 30, pending word from Governor Lolo Moliga on the status of American Samoa’s COVID-19 emergency regulations which saw the suspension of flights for 30 days.
But the airline has confirmed that their service to and from Pago Pago will remain suspended for another 30 days.
Governor Lolo Moliga yesterday wrote to the President and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines Peter Ingram requesting an additional 30 days suspension of flights to American Samoa.
Airline Vice President Ann Botticelli said a formal response will be sent out today but says “of course we will honor his wishes.”
She added, “We are happy American Samoa is able to stay clear of coronavirus.”
The last Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu and back was on March 26th.
KHJ News has received several enquiries from local residents as well as American Samoans off island on when the Hawaiian will resume flightst toPago Pago.
Some are from families waiting to bring home the remains of family members for burial. Others were booked to attend graduation of children and relatives here, Hawaii and the mainland.
