Another option for cannery buses

starkist-3

We reported earlier about Governor Lolo Moliga’s instructions to the Coronavirus Task Force to inform StarKist Samoa that the government will pay for additional buses to transport employees due to the emergency declaration rule for buses to carry only half the nukmber of passengers/

KHJ News sought more information from the Task Force Chairman Iulogologo Joseph Pereira regarding the governor’s statement and when his offer will be carried out.

Iulogologo Joseph Pereira said the Task Force is working with Starkist on how to address the Governor’s concern about the buses particularly on the risk involved with packing the buses to capacity.

He said they need to collect more information on the number of buses currently being used to transport cannery employees to and from work. Once this information is obtained they will then be able to determine the costs.

Iulogologo told KHJ News StarKist management has informed them that it just started enforcing the mandatory wearing of masks for all employees as an added measure to prevent any spread of the virus.

He said this requirement can be extended to all employees traveling on buses “that they must continue to wear their masks going home and coming to work.”

The Task Force chairman said they will run this option through the Department of Health and LBJ to determine its effectiveness in addressing Governor Lolo’s concern.

The Task Force will present its findings to the Governor for his review and instructions.
