As of this morning no decision had been made on whether to allow a Chinese fishing boat with a seriously injured crew member on board to enter Pago Pago Harbor.

The fishing vessel, Man Fu Tsai No. 88, is registered in Samoa but was prohibited from entering Apia because of the lockdown on all aircraft and sea going vessels that went into effect last week.

Through a local stevedore company, the fishing vessel sought permission to bring the injured crew member here for treatment.

A spokesman said the crew member is in serious condition though he did not have details of the nature of the injury and how it was caused.

The vessel is reported to have been waiting about 20 miles out of the harbor since Saturday for permission to enter but it remains uncertain what the decision will be because of concerns with Coronavirus.

Health Director Motusa said only the governor can make the call on whether the vessel should be allowed in. But he said they would not trouble the governor with the matter.

He reported at the EOC briefing on Sunday that there’s been no further contact with the fishing boat so it appears that it’s moved on.

But the spokesman for the stevedore company said as of this morning they were still waiting for a decision from the local government.
