Sunday church services will continue for the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa.

General Secretary Rev. Nafatali Falealii said that there will be only one Sunday service for each aulotu or congregation, but all other services will be cancelled.

All congregations have been urged to use hand sanitizers and ensure members are appropriately distanced from each other during services.

Rev. Nafatali said it is very difficult to discontinue Sunday services because of the faith of the people.

However, if there’s one confirmed Coronavis case in the territory, Sunday services for CCCAS will be discontinued.

The Methodist, Catholic and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have suspended Sunday services and other gatherings.

The chairman of the American Samoa Synod of the Methodist Church, Rev. Asi Tuisalega said it was initially planned to cancel all weekly services and still hold their Sunday worship.

However in response to the governor’s declaration in response to the fast spread of Coronavirus they have decided to suspend Sunday services.

He said Methodist families have been urged to hold their prayer services at home.

The head of the Catholic Church in American Samoa, Bishop Peter Brown last week announced that all Sunday Masses and other church gatherings will be suspended.

Daily morning Masses which have less attendance have continued.

The Diocese of Smaoa Pago Pago will stream Sunday Masses on the diocesan FaceBook page, Diocese Samoa Pago Pago.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was the first to suspend public worship services worldwide.

This includes sacrament meeting, branch, wards and stake activities as well as stake conferences and other large gatherings.

The LDS Church President Russel Nelson has asked all members to participate in a worldwide fast to pray for relief form COVID-19 this Sunday, March 29.
