No exemption for gas stations

Gas stations are not getting a break from the 6:00 am – 6:00 pm hours of operation under the emergency declaration for COVID-19.

Chairman of the ASG Coronavirus Task Force Iulogologo Joseph Pereira says gas stations are to close at 6pm.

The American Samos Chamber of Commerce had requested that gas stations be exempted because they fuel public transport such as buses that transport cannery workers.

Starkist and entities that service it are exempt from the business hours.

One of the gas stations, Morris Scanlan Service Station, supplies gas for ASPA, EMS and DPS vehicles.

Earlier this week, Iulogologo said that he was reviewing requests from service stations for transmittal to the governor for his decision.

When asked today, Iulogologo replied by email, “All gas stations are to close at 6pm.”

Since the restrictions were imposed, there have been lines of cars waiting to fuel up at gas stations as early as 4 am.
