Director General of Samoa’s Ministry of Health, Leausa Dr Take Naseri, says there have been 22 suspected COVID-19 cases so far and sixteen have returned negative test results.

Samoa Observer reports the negative tests includes all eight original suspected cases announced by Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi last week.

Specimens for four new suspected cases were sent to New Zealand on the last flight out on Wednesday evening but the other two missed the flight.

Leausa said these will be stored until the arrival of 500 test kits from the Peoples Republic of China.

According to Leausa, some of the  suspected cases of coronavirus are not people who had travelled to New Zealand or Australia but individuals who have had contact with relatives from those countries.
