The husband of the young mother who died from injuries in a domestic violence assault last Thursday in Nu’uuli now faces first degree murder and other charges in connection with the fatal beating.

Amosa Lautaimi is held without bail on charges of first degree murder, attempted arson first degree, third degree assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Lautaimi is alleged to have hit his wife on the head with a sledge hammer and then setting her on fire.

His wife and mother of their five children, Jessica Fuimaono, was rushed to the hospital that morning with little hope that she would survive the horrific assault.

She died at the Intensive Care Unit of the LBJ Hospital on Friday morning, never regaining consciousness.

The alleged attack was witnessed by two of the couple’s children and her brother.

Lautaumi, who was arrested at the scene Thursday morning, was represented in court this morning by Public Defender Michael White while Assistant Attorney General Hannah Kim was the prosecutor.

The couple is believed to have been separated and the defendant went to Jessica’s family home in Nuuuli when other family members had left the house for work.

Lautaimi will be back in District Court for his initial appearance on April 1st.
