Governor Lolo Moliga has again reminded directors that they are not to campaign on government time and using government property.

Speaking at today’s cabinet meeting Lolo said all directors have a right to participate in political activities…it’s their constitutional right.  As long as they do so on their own time and not using government properties, it’s fine..

The governor said he has given instructions to the Commissioner of Public Safety for police to impound any government vehicle seen at campaign activities.

And this applies to directors’ vehicles.

Just last week Vice Speaker Fetu Fetui raised concern about Commissioner of Public Safety Le’i Sonny Thompson being visible at a recent gubernatorial campaign event.

He said this was inappropriate given Lei’s role as the territory’s top police officer.

Sources have reported that Le’i attended the official announcement of the Gaoteote Faiivae campaign and was using his DPS1 vehicle.

Governor Lolo said the only person who is entitled to use an ASG vehicle for campaign activities is the lt governor as he is an elected official and under the law he is entitled to a government vehicle, housing and a security officer at all times.

Lolo told directors if their follow the law this will help maintain peace and harmony during this campaign season.
