samoa-met-service

This is a special bulletin from the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security – TEMCO issued at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

The National Weather Service has issued a HIGH WIND WARNING now in effect for American Samoa through Thursday.  A high wind warning means that wind speeds up to 25 to 40 miles per hour with higher gusts of 58 are expected. These strong and gusty winds are being caused by a Tropical Depression Northwest of the Samoan Islands.

The public is advised to be cautious and be prepared, as these strong winds can cause tree branches to break and even trees to fall, and power lines can be damaged as well.  The strong winds can cause difficulties in operating your vehicles on the roads and highway and extreme precautionary measures are advised.

Residents are urged to tie down and secure loose items around your properties and home.

The Department of Homeland Security – TEMCO will continue to monitor the situation and we will issue further bulletins if necessary.
