AG Talauega leaves office, team announcement Saturday

Today was Attorney General Talauega Eleasalo Ale‘s last day at work.

He is stepping down to run as the lt. governor running mate for candidate for Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga. 

The AG said in a February 7 letter to Govenror Lolo Moliga, “This letter formally confirms my intent to resign from the office of Attorney General, effective February 15. 

“It has been a great honor and privilege to serve the people of American Samoa and your administration these past six years as Attorney General.  Thank you for the opportunity and your trust in me.”

This morning Talauega appeared at a Senate hearing concerning an administration bill introduced last year to amend the application process and regulations for foreign investors coming into the territory. 

At the end of the hearing, Talauega informed senators that today was his last day as AG and stated he fees privileged to have been appointed by the governor and endorsed by the Fono to serve as AG. 

He also expressed thanks to the Senate President and all the senators for always welcoming him whenever he appeared before them.

In related news, the team of Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Sialega Mauga and Talauega Eleasalo Ale will officially announce their candidacy for the 2020 gubernatorial election tomorrow.

The chairman of the Lemanu Taluega Campaign Committee, Malemo Tausaga, Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs says the event starts with a prayer service ‪at 7am‬ at the guesthouse of Savea in Matuu. 

He said this is just an official announcement where the two candidates wil be introduced.
