Samoa Airways plans to begin flight services between Upolu and Savaii islands next month.

As Polynesian Airlines, the Samoa carrier used to fly from Fagalii Airport to Maota Airport as well as Asau Airport but the service was discontinued in the late 1990’s.

At one time there were also direct flights from American Samoa to Savaii.

According to a press statement from Samoa Airways, the launch of flights to Savaii is to develop the tourism market on the island with support from Samoa Tourism, Samoa Hotel Association and the Savaii Samoa Tourism Association.

CEO for Samoa Airways, Tupuivao Seiuli Alvin Tuala says this is a good time to make new routes and offer more options to their customer base.

President of Samoa Hotel Association and Savaii businessman, Tupai Saleimoa Vaai said this is a huge boost for the big island.

“From the industry side we are ready to come to the table with Samoa Airways and make this work” Tupai said.

“We are thankful that the airways to Savaii are open again and our commitment is to utilise this access while ensuring our national carrier is looked after.”

Samoa Airways aims to begin flight services by the end of March 2020. This will allow time to set up the operations and provide enough lead time into markets to promote and sell flights.
