Expect heavy rain and strong winds tomorrow

7:00 PM…The National Weather Service reports that the monsoon trough has shifted to the south of the islands and will remain tonight. The monsoon will again move over the islands on Sunday afternoon bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms and winds of 20 to 30 mph. These severe weather elements will persist through Monday night before the monsoon trough exits to the northeast.

Impacts:

Seas and surf:
*   Hazardous seas of 10 to 13 feet will continue through tomorrow (translates to surfs of 
up to 16 feet) especially for northern shores.
*   Hazardous waves and strong winds could capsize or damage vessels and reduce 
visibility.

Winds:
*   Strong northerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts likely in locations near 
downslope of mountains, valleys and flat areas, will continue through tonight.
*   Hazardous winds could blow down trees, damage roofs, small outbuildings, cause 
downed powerlines, and make driving difficult.

Rain:
*   Flash flooding is imminent or occurring, landslides are possible tonight and into the 
new week.
*   Heavy rainfall can reduce visibility and make driving difficult.

The only weather related incident reported to the Emergency Operations today was a landslide at Agugulu which blocked on lane. Public Works crews were out there this afternoon clearing the road.

Residents reported uprooted trees and fallen branches. Billboards and road signs were also blown over. Yachties reported that it was a sleepless night being tossed around in their boats and some strong gusts were like what they experienced in a hurricane.
