A security fence and sidewalk for the lower end of the Iliili Golf Course is under construction.

Director of the American Samoa Sports Complex which looks after the golf course, Toleafoa Henry Tavake, says this is a sole source project.

The contractor is Pentagon Construction.

Toleafoa said they’ve been overlooking the job for some time but it needs to be done to improve the security of the course.

He said the old fence was too close to the road so they’ve moved it into the golf course area.

They’ve added a sidewalk which would help prevent overgrown grass that is a hazard to drivers and doesn’t allow water to flow during heavy rains.

“This will be a good upgrade for the golf course,” said Toleafoa.

The Iliili Golf Course will host the Pro Am Tournament next summer, the first time in more than 30 years that the Pro Am will be held here.

The director didn’t have details on the cost of the project and pointed out that the funding is all handled by the Governor’s Office, Special Programs Division.
