A documentary which tells the life story of a man who has been contributing to education in American Samoa for over 80 years, Frederic Duclos Barstow, will have its premiere at the Multipurpose Complex at the American Samoa Community College at 9 tomorrow morning.
Barstow spent some time in American Samoa whose warm climate was prescribed for an ailment he suffered as a young man.
He lived with Samoan families and fell in love with the people and island.
But he died at the young age of 34 and his family carried out his wishes to help finance educational opportunities for American Samoans.
Some of the schools which were set up through the Barstow Foundation are the Leala School and Midkiff Elementary.
The Feleti Public Library is named after him.
The Barstow Foundation offers a scholarship for students from American Samoa at the University of Hawaii.
One of the recipients of the scholarship is Meteorologist Dora Leiato Meredith.
Dr Tina Tauasosi who is the Barstow Foundation administrator at UH will speak at the premiere of the documentary tomorrow.
Her aim is to get more students from American Samoa to apply for the scholarship because in past years there were no takers.
