Two face drug and weapon charges

Faafetai Lefatia Jr also known as Una Boy and Daisy Mareko appeared in district Court yesterday on charged os unlawful possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition.

According to the government’s case, police patrolling the west side  on November 7th, spotted a black Hyundai vehicle parked in front of a store in Puapua which they believed was the same vehicle involved in a high speed chase with police in the early hours of Nov 3rd.

When police approached and asked Lefatia he claimed he didn’t know who was driving the vehicle that morning. Another vehicle pulled up while police were conversing with Lefatia.

A male passenger in the second vehicle, identified as Daisy Mareko exited and approached Lefatia who instructed him to carry a bag of groceries and a black bag that were in the back seat of his vehicle.

Mareko did as he was told.

Police asked Lefatia who the black bag belonged to and he said it belonged to Mareko.

Police then took Lefatia to the Tafuna substation for further questioning.

Meanwhile Mareko got back into the other vehicle and drove off , then  turned into the road leading to Le Aute, whereupon  police noticed both the driver and Mareko were not wearing seat belts.

A traffic stop was made and police asked for identification.  Mareko couldn’t provide an ID and police asked him to step out of the vehicle.

Officers asked if they could look inside the black bag, Mareko said “go ahead” and handed the bag to the officers.

The bag was slightly opened and two guns were visible.

The two males were taken to the Tafuna substation and their vehicle was impounded and inventoried.

Inside the bag was $2,949 in cash.  2 handguns,  11 ammunition, cut up straws with a crystalline substance which tested positive for meth, a medium sized baggie containing the same crystalline substance which also tested positive for meth and 99 medium sized empty baggies.

When he was asked whom the bag belonged to, Mareko said it was Lefatia’s

Police released the driver of the vehicle Mareko was riding in and the two defendants were arrested and taken into custody.

Bail for Lefatia Jr is $20,000 and Mareko’s bail is $10,000.
