The Department of Health says two children visiting the territory from Samoa are being treated as highly suspected cases of measles.

Responding to KHJ News questions Dr. Saipale Fuimaono says blood samples from the two children are being sent on tonight’s Hawaiian Air flight for testing in Honolulu. He expects the test results to be known in a few days.

For now the two children are admitted to the hospital.

Dr. Fuimaono says they’re taking all precautions to prevent any spread of what the children have.

DOH is also monitoring  the family where the children are staying.

There have been posts on FaceBook that the territory now has measles cases. But Dr. Fuimaono said these are highly suspected cases but not confirmed until the test results are available.

He did say the doctors at LBJ who treated the children said they exhibited symptoms of measles.
