More than 100 returning residents traveling from Samoa who didn’t have proof they have been immunized for measles are being quarantined at home since the emergency declaration went into effect late last week.

According to Epidemiologist Dr Aifili John Tufa travelers have to self quarantine.

DOH has their names and villages and will be following up to check on them.

A total of 142 residents who traveled via Samoa and didn’t have proof they have been vaccinated for measles are under the quarantine order.

Dr Tufa said the quarantine process is done on an honor system and it’s up to the persons themselves to self quarantine.

He told KHJ News if DOH discovers that these travelers are not abiding by instructions to stay put for the quarantine period they will seek guidance from the Attorney General’s Office on ways to enforce the quarantine orders.
