Shipyard employees still working says Board Chairman

The Chairman of the Board of the American Samoa Shipyard Services Authority, Liu Siakisone Liu, says there’s stll plenty of jobs to occupy the employees of the government shipyard.

He said despite the derailment incident employees are still working and there’s a lot of work to go around.

The shipyard is securing the services of a marine engineer from off-island to advise on how tio proceed with rerpairs to the slipway after a derailment incident a month ago.

A report about the incident said that the shipyard stands to lose about $1-2 million because of work stoppage due to the damage caused.

The derailment occurred October 1st when both cradles went off their tracks simultaneously. The cradles parted  from the tracks without any signs and or warning said a report of the incident.

According to the report beause of the rapid response by the shipyard crew, the slipay is still in operable condition. All hardware, chains and other moving appendages are intact.
