The 2020 Census Office is on target to begin the hiring of more than 200 field enumerators by the end of this month or early next month.
They are the ones who will be visiting homes throughout the territory to conduct the people count.
Census Area Manager Meleisea Vai Filiga said there’ll be training for the enumerators and that’s planned for January.
Then the next process is the listing, where the location of housing units will be identified along with group quarters such as the LBJ Hospital, the Territorial Correctional Facility and Fatuoaiga, where groups of people reside.
They will also identify transitory locations such as vessels and hotels as the occupants will also be included in the census.
The reference date or when the actual counting of people in their permanent homes will start is April 1st,.
Meleisea says the field enumerator positions are part time.
Hiring of administrative staff is in progress. These include area managers, assistant managers and supervisory staff.
The hiring is done jointly by the Census Office and ASG’s Department of Human Resource =es and in addition to an interview there are tests for some positions.
