Congresswoman explains GAO’s review of minimum wage impacts

Legislation introduced by Congresswoman Aumua Amata which was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump gives minimum wage employees in American Samoa a 40 cent increase every three years.

This amends previous law which provided a 50 cent increase in the hourly wage every year until local wages catch up with the federal minimum wage.

Congressman Aumua Amata arrived Thursday night with four GAO officials who are conducting an assessment of how the wage increase has impacted the government, businesses and families in the territory.

The GAO study is one of the provisions in the law that Aumua initiated. The congresswoman explained the three main objectives of the GAO study .
