A capacity crowd filled the ASCC multi-purpose complex last evening for the Deep Waters Film Festival presented by Pacific Islanders in Communications.

John Wasko who was among the audience said the presentation of “Rapanui” or Easter Island in the film Eating up Easter as the main feature, explores the lives of three indigenous Rapanui islanders determined to preserve the Rapanui culture in the face of growing technology, consumerism and tourism.

Following the one hour and fifteen minute film, Reggie Meredith Fitiao took questions from the audience.

Mostly students commented that “ Rapanui” is a lesson to every indigenous island that culture is the unifying glue that holds families, social values and common beliefs together.

Reggie agreed and said that art and the community of artists in each society played the key role in cultural preservation.
