The 9th Annual Close Up Youth Summit is in its second day at the Army Reserve Center, with civic minded students tackling issues which impact our community.

Eighty juniors and seniors from all public high schools and three private high schools are discussing solutions to real-life issues, and experiencing first hand the law-making process with the help of government officials and lawmakers.

Today the students are researching issues such as the government budget, law enforcement and public safety, obesity and substance abuse and the environment.

A summit steering committee comprising student leaders will lead the preparation of resolutions that will be presented to lawmakers on the final day of the Summit tomorrow.

Local and off island advisors from the Close Up Program are giving the students pointers on how to research their topics and frame their resolutions.
