Samoan Studies Institute sponsors writing contest

In its effort to keep the Samoan language alive and develop Samoan language literature, the Samoan Studies Institute  sponsors a yearly Samoan language writing contest.

Previously the contest was only opened to ASCC students however this year anyone in American Samoa can enter.

Tupaisiva Tamari Cheung of the Samoan Studies Institute says there’s a gap in Samoan language literature for young people.

Entries must be fiction and can be about any topic. Stories must be between 1,500 to 2000 words. First prize is $500, second prize is $300 and the 3rd place winner takes home $200.

Entries will be accepted between October 16 and October 30 and can be emailed to  tusigatala.laugagana@gmail.com or dropped off  at the Samoan Studies Institute at the College.
