A new American Samoa Certificate of Identity will be launched October 15.

Instead of six months the new CI will be valid for one year and will cost $100, up from $50 for the six month CIs now in use.

An announcement from the Attorney General’s Office said the new CI will replace the territory’s Ci format which has been in use since 1969.

It will have enhanced security features making it more secure and less prone to unauthorized alterations.

It’s an international standard for passports and travel documents to be valid for six months.

Since American Samoa’s existing CI is only valid for six months, by the time it’s issued and a traveler uses it, it falls short of the six months validity requirement for travel documents.
