Youth charged for assault & theft of businessman

Samoa Police have arrested three young men for allegedly assaulting a Chinese businessman last Saturday at Lotopa, on the outskirts of the capital Apia.

Police confirmed that all three are also charged with theft of more than $ST20,000.

According to a Police statement, the intoxicated young men had stolen a backpack containing $23,000 from the victim’s car and when he tried to chase them down he was punched in the face.

“One of the three suspects was arrested early Sunday morning and was charged accordingly while the other two suspects were charged and arrested on Monday morning,” said Police.

Police have recovered $21,545 together with stolen items such as cartons of chicken and beer from the three suspects and the items have been returned to the victim.

The three remain in police custody awaiting court appearances on October 1st.
