Female police officers want to be heard

Female police officers from around the Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand began a three day meeting this morning at the Tradewinds Hotel.  The female officers are members of the Womens Advisory Network of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Conference.

WAN aims to improve the participation of women in the workforce, secure equal opportunities for women in the law enforcement and achieve a greater role for women in decision making.

Commissioner of Public Safety Le’i Sonny Thompson, in welcoming the delegates this morning,  announced the promotions of several women officers including Sgts Vaivasa Wells and Samantha Lam Yuen and Lt  Annielyse Coffin.

Commissioner of Police from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Matthew Varley talked about some of  the issues that WAN raised two years ago which have been related to the Chiefs of Police Conference.

The outcome of the WAN meeting will be presented to the Chiefs of Police conference that starts Wednesday in American Samoa.
