The CEO of Stratus Silver Lining Inc., has met with the President of the American Samoa Community College Dr. Rosevonne Pato to finalize details of their computer training course and has announced that classes are on target to start on Monday, September 2.

Dr. Alok Sharma, who arrived on island Monday says the classes will be conducted at the ASCC campus.

The two enginer instructors who will be teaching the course are Michael Robertson and Chris Magalei. The company had earlier announced that professors from Wisconsin based here would teach the course.

The tuition for the year long course is $500.

Dr. Sharma said the goal of the program is to enable American Samoa students to obtain a 21st Century skill set and set the foundation for careers with global technology companies.

He added that the skills learned from the year long curriculum will enable them to work or secure internships at leading Silicon Valley companies such as Google, Face Book, Cisco and others.

He added that for students looking to pursue higher education, the curriculum provides a solid STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) foundation for success.

Dr. Sharma pointed out that the  use of leading edge Cloud Computing, enabled by the high speed undersea Tafuna spur fiber cable, provides the latest in software applications, compute & storage to students in American Samoa similar to the facilities available to students sitting in Silicon Valley.

“This technology will also allow them, during their professional careers, to work for global companies while staying in American Samoa,” assured the CEO.

The computer program is being conducted under the sponsorship of American Samoa Global Technology Foundation.

The Foundation, under the leadership of Michael Korniczky, is also raising money from Silicon Valley companies to provide financial support to local students who’ve signed up for the course.
