Company CEO Dr. Alok Sharma told KHJ News that its technical team will be here next week to ensure the successful start of the program on September 1st.
Dr. Sharma had announced in a press conference in early June that they hoped to start the year long course with 500 students September 1st and gradually add more students for a full complement of 2,000 to complete the course.
Online registration opened June 13 and according to Dr. Sharma a critical mass of students have already signed up.
The two courses are Computer Games Design Using MIT Scratch and Computer Programming in Java – An Interdisciplinary Approach.
The courses will be taught by professors from Wisconsin who will be based here.
The company CEO said that these courses are geared to the needs of the industry and he was confident that those who complete the course will have no problem getting hired.
Dr. Sharma says companies like Google, Intel, Facebook and others are always looking to hire young people with the skills that their courses teach.
American Samoa has come under the radar of these companies due to efforts by the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund to attract customers for the Hawaiki Cable which the Fund owns, now offering 200 gigabytes of bandwidth for the territory.
