Thomas Siaumau, who escaped from the Territorial Correctional Facility on July 3, is now back in custody.

Police sources have told KHJ News that Siaumau contacted DPS late last night and indicated that he wanted to surrender himself.

He gave a location where police could meet him and as arranged, he was picked up from this location and taken back to the Territorial Correctional Facility. It was after midnight when he was put back behind bars.

Siaumau was convicted in May of shooting at a police vehicle with an officer behind the wheel, at the Tony Solaita Baseball Field in 2017. He is serving a 30 year sentence.

A woman told KHJ News that she saw Siaumau out on the street between 11 and 12 noon on Wednesday, July 3 and immediately dialed 911 but there was no answer.

Later that evening between 7 and 8 pm she called the TCF and she believes that was when TCF personnel only became aware that Siaumau was not in his cell.

The House Public Safety Committee has scheduled a hearing with the Commissioner of Public Safety and Director of Homeland Security for this Friday to discuss the escape of inmates and other issues relating to conditions at the TCF.
