Four female employees of TSM Mart in Tafuna have been arrested on charges of stealing and embezzlement.

The Samoa News reports that Kalameli Tauave, Faatamalii Atiae, Manaia Iopu and Alofagia Alofipo made their initial appearances in District Court yesterday.

The government alleges that over $64,000 was stolen by one of the defendants. Two others used their pin codes to open a cash register and take cash, which the women allegedly divided among themselves.

The government contends that the theft started last year and continued to the beginning of this year.

The store carried out an internal investigation which pointed to the four employees as the culprits of stealing money from the company.

TSM sought assistance from the Department of Public Safety to firm up the findings of their internal investigation, which led to the criminal case filed against the four women.

When questioned by police, all four defendants admitted to the allegations through written statements.

Bail for each of the four women is set at $10,00o. They are scheduled for preliminary examinations on July 12.
