Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele has given the Electric Power Corporation (EPC) an edict: no power outages during the Pacific Games.

The PM gave the order after a power outage delayed the start of an event Saturday where the PM had lunch with Samoa athletes at the Games venue at Tuanaimato.

Speaking at the event the Prime Minister said the late start was due to the power outage and added, so this is also a message to the EPC chief and technical staff, “to look into our power stations to prevent any interruption while the Games are on.”

Tuilaepa said that most of the sports for the Pacific Games relies on electricity for the recording of scores.

He also had a message for the EPC technical staff: “none of you should sleep anymore starting from now till the Games are complete.”

Earlier in the week loss of electricity interrupted Parliamentary proceedings.

EPC CEO Tologata Tile Tuimaleali’ifano issued a public apology following the outage.

He said a faulty switchgear with the transformers at Tanugamanono was responsible for the one hour outage.

He said if another outage occurred, the Fiaga power station has the capacity to feed electricity through the national grid.
