AG explains reason for one year CIs

Among the changes being proposed by the Attorney General’s Office to immigration laws, fees and processes, is extending the validity of American Samoa Certificates of Identity from 6 months to one year and increasing the fee from $50 to $100.

During a presentation on the proposed fees at a meeting of the Visit Amerika Samoa Association last week, AG Talauega Eleasalo Ale explained that the longer validity period satisfies the requirement of many countries that travel documents must be valid for 6 months.

A local travel agent said that travelers using American Samoa CIs to visit New Zealand sometimes encounter problems because their CIs are valid for only six months.

The AG explained this is one of the reasons why they are extending the validity term of CIs to one year.
