Two taxis that operated under the Toa Taxi Stand have been impounded by police for operating without valid business licenses.
Last month, the Commerce Commission ordered the Toa Taxi Stand to cease and desist because its taxis were charging fares not approved by the Commission.
A spokesperson for the Department of Commerce explained that taxis operating out of the Toa Taxi Stand were informed that they could still operate; however, they had to obtain new business licenses.
The two taxis that were impounded did not have valid business licenses. They were still using the Toa Taxi stand license, which is no longer valid after the Commerce Commission’s ruling to close down.
Toa Taxi Stand, headed by Tuitamai Emmanuel Ulberg, has a hearing date with the Commission in September and until then, all taxis which had been operating under the Toa license need to obtain new business licenses.
