Archie Taotasi Soliai reappointed to Fishery Council

Archie Taotasi Soliai has been reappointed to the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council which regulates fishing in waters of Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam and Northern Marianas.

The Western Pacific Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional fishery management councils that partner with NOAA Fisheries to manage ocean fish stocks.

Soliai, who is in charge of government and community relations at StarKist Samoa, is the current chairman of the Council. His new appointment is for three years.

Also appointed to the Council is Howard Dunham.

Director of Marine and Wildlife Resources Vaamua Henry Sesepasara also serves on the Council.

An announcement from the US Secretary of Commerce said along with their colleagues, these council members will help shape the science-based management of U.S. fisheries and continue the strong commitment to ending overfishing, rebuilding fish stocks and supporting sustainable fisheries and vibrant fishing communities.

NOAA Fisheries works closely with the councils through the process of developing fishery management plans.
