A man from Leone who has been convicted of other crimes in the past was arrested last week on drug charges.

Samoa News reports that Faamamafa Galea’i was in District Court yesterday morning for possession of controlled substances, crystal methamphetamine.

Galeai’s vehicle was pulled over by police around 5:30 pm last Friday for failure to stop at a stop sign in Tafuna.

Police said they saw movement inside the defendant’s vehicle and when they approached Galea’i he had his hands inside his pants pocket and he looked nervous.

Asked what was inside his pocket he said in Samoan it was paper and a pipe.

A body search was carried out and police found a stamp sized baggie inside Galeai’s pants pocket which had inside a crystalline substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

There was also a glass pipe containing a crystalline substance which also produced positive results for meth.

The defendant told police that he had just bought these items from a friend but he did not give a name.

Galea’i is now a resident of the Territorial Correctional Facility with bail set at $5,000.
