A Samoan man has plead guilty to raping an Australian woman in Samoa last November.

Thirty year old Terry Faatai who was charged with one count of rape entered a guilty plea through his lawyer Tuala Joe Ponafasio.

Justice Leiataulesa Daryl Clarke issued name suppression for the complainant and any information that may lead to her identification.

The defense counsel requested an opportunity for Faatai to apologize to the victim before she departs for Australia, a request granted by the judge.

The defendant was emotional when he gave his apology. He said he was very sorry for what he did to the victim.

He thanked the victim for being kind to him and for everything she has done for him in the past.

He asked that she forgive him.

The incident happened November 21, 2018 at a hotel that the victim was staying in while she was visiting Samoa.

The defendant is remanded in custody to await sentencing on July 24.
