No more dirty water from Fagaima wells

The problem of dirty water from water wells in Fagaima has been rectified.

‘Things have improved,”  says Acting Executive Director of the American Samoa Power Authority Wallon Young.

He adds, “ASPA  hasn’t received any complaints of dirty water for many months now.”

Two wells in Fagaima that were producing dirty water at the beginning of the year are now back on line.

Surface water intrusion during heavy rain caused water from the Fagaima wells to turn a brownish color.

ASPA is putting in a filtration system for the Fagaima wells and the design is now undergoing final review.

Meanwhile, the water supply on the east side of the island continues to show high salinity or salt content and ASPA is addressing the situation by drilling new wells.

Young reports that ASPA’s drilling team has completed the drilling of new wells in Pago Pago and Laulii. The team is mobilizing to drill additional wells in Tula, Alega and Aua.

Once those wells are completed, the drilling crew will move to the Tafuna area within the next three months.

New wells are planned for Iliili, Kokoland and the ASPA compound in Tafuna.
